Rocco Forte Open Preview, Odds and Predictions

2017-Golf-Odds-To-Win-Rocco-Forte-Open-Betting-LInes

There are some nice odds available on the Rocco Forte Open, which begins on Thursday in Sicily, Italy. It is one of the weakest fields in recent memory on the European Tour with no top players competing. The favorite to win this tournament is actually a rookie, with Jordan Smith the favorite at odds of +1850. The Rocco Forte Open is a new event so we don’t have much data to go on, but the Verdura Golf Club did host a European Tour event five years ago.

Odds Analysis

Jordan Smith +1850

Smith is having a very good rookie season, as he is 32nd in the Race to Dubai but he missed cuts in Australia and China. I think he is overvalued at these odds and I will look elsewhere.

Haotong Li +2050

Li has three top 25 starts in his last five European Tour starts. He tied for 38th last year in the Italian Open. I don’t think there is enough value on Li at these odds so I will look elsewhere.

James Morrison +2250

Morrison is playing well with five top 15 finishes and he has played this course before. I think you can make a case for him being the favorite this week and I like him at these odds.

Bradley Dredge +2950

Dredge has played well in Italy in the past with a pair of second place finishes in the Italian Open. He could be in the mix for the win this week.

Matteo Manassero +3250

You never know what you are going to get with Manassero but he is very capable of winning in his home country. He did finish in the top three in India and he played well in the GolfSixes. He is worth a flyer.

Scott Jamieson +3450

Jamieson played on this course five years ago and had a closing 66 to finish tied for 19th. He tied for 7th in the Italian Open last year and he has top 25 finishes in three of his last four starts overall.

Rikard Karlberg +3550

Karlberg won the Italian Open in 2015 and he tied for 7th in a Challenge Tour event in Italy in 2012. He could be a definite threat at longshot odds this week.

Eduardo Molinari +6650

My big longshot this week is Molinari who won the Trophee Hassan II last month and he is playing at home. He won two Challenge Tour events in Italy in 2009.

Course: The Verdura Golf Club is 7,352 yards and it hosted the Sicilian Open in 2012. It is really a links-style course and the last six holes all feature the Mediterranean Sea in the background. The hardest hole five years ago was the 18th which features a tee shot that is picturesque, with cliffs in the background.

TV Coverage: Golf Channel

Notes: This event is definitely not in a good spot on the European schedule, as THE PLAYERS was last week and next week the BMW PGA Championship takes place. All of the best players in the world are bypassing this event. When the Sicilian Open was held at Verdura five years ago it was Thorbjorn Olesen winning, with Chris Wood finishing second. Nicolas Colsaerts and Soren Kjeldsen tied for third.
