Thomas Pieters headlines the field for the Made in Denmark, which goes up against The Northern Trust this weekend. The field for this tournament in Denmark is understandably not very strong, but Pieters is one big name and he is joined by former major winner Martin Kaymer and local favorites Soren Kjeldsen and Thorbjon Olesen. It has been a good season for us picking PGA matchups, so we’ll look to continue that success with European Tour matchups. Let’s look at the odds and picks for the Made in Denmark

Made in Denmark Matchup Picks

Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. Even though Himmerland is not a links course it has a links feel to it. The last three winners of the event are Pieters, David Horsey and Marc Warren. The course is long at 7,382 yards and win can be a factor. The overriding statistic to look at for this event is driving distance. Long hitters should do well and those that scramble and putt well could also be in the mix. I’ll take a look at four matchups this week, including the marquee one between Pieters and Kjeldsen.

T. Pieters -143 vs. S. Kjeldsen

It is all about driving distance at Himmerland and this is a major mismatch, as Pieters is 11th on the European Tour in distance at 307 yards, while Kjeldsen is 220th at just over 276 yards. Pieters has played much better than Kjeldsen this season and he is the defending champion. I will lay what I think is a reasonable price and take Pieters in this matchup.

N. Colsaerts -144 vs. T. Detry

This is another matchup where the distance edge is with Colsaerts as he ranks 28th while Detry is 128th on the European Tour. Colsaerts is ranked 115th in the world, while Detry is ranked 155th in the latest World Golf Rankings. I will lay the small price and take Colsaerts.

P. Dunne +107 vs. B. Dredge -137

I don’t take a lot of underdogs, but I think Dunne could contend for the win this weekend and he has played well in Denmark in the past with a tie for 10th last year. He was second in scrambling but didn’t make enough birdies to win. He played well last week at the Paul Lawrie Match Play, so he comes into this event in fine form. I will take Dunne as an underdog in this matchup.

T. Lewis -128 vs. Z. Lombard

Lewis has started to play well in the last year and a half, and he has five top 20 finishes this season. He has finished 15th, 20th and 26th in his three starts in the Made In Denmark. He played well last week including a win in match play over Lombard. I will lay the price in this matchup.
