Lyoness Open Golf Odds Preview and Predictions

Lyoness-Open-Picks-2016

The European Tour travels to Austria for the 2016 Lyoness Open powered by Sporthilfe Cashback Card. With the U.S. Open a week away, the betting field this week is, well, what you would think it would be one week prior to a major, weak!

Bernd Wiesberger +800, Chris Wood +780 and Joost Luiten +1400 are the betting favorites and all three players will contend this week and all have had success on the Diamond Country Club, in fact, all three have won this event. With the watered down, no star attraction type field, their success will continue.

Wiesberger and Wood are the only players in the field that will make the trip across the pond to next week’s U. S. Open at Oakmont Country Club

Other notable players include Richie Ramsay +2200, Kristoffer Broberg +2250, David Horsey +2990 and Lucas Bjerregaard +2500.

Diamond Country Club in Atzenbrugg, Austria will host the event for the seventh straight year. The layout measures 7,413 yards which is 200 yards longer than it was seven years ago. It’s a quality layout that has water in play on 13 of the 18 holes and will test every part of a player’s game.

ODDS ANALYSIS

Chris Wood vs. Bernd Wiesberger vs. Joost Luiten

This are the power matchups for this week’s Lyoness Open.

Wood is coming off his biggest win of his career at the BMW PGA Championship and also is the defending champion of this event. The Englishman is now on to another level in the ranks of golf and we will find out how he handles the high expectations that now follow him from week to week.

Wiesberger is one of the few Austrians on the European Tour and has had moderate success at Diamond Country Club. Prior to last year’s missed cut he reeled off four top 15 finishes, including a win in 2012, a second in 2014 and fifth in 2011. He loves the course and inspired to play well this week and had this to say, “After last year I have a score to settle with the course,” he told EuropeanTour.com, “and I will give my best to be able to play for the victory at the weekend.”

Finally Luiten started out this year hot as a firecracker, posting eight top 15 finishes in his first nine starts to start the year but since has cooled off. He come into this event under the radar compared to Wiesberger and Wood and that should pave the way for a strong finish and is my pick in the power three matchups. In three starts at Diamond Country Club, the worst he’s finished is T3 which included a win. LUITEN is the play!

SLEEPER ANYONE?

When the elite players are absent, the opportunity is there for the taking. This is a great week to take a shot on a few sleepers that are trending in the right direction. Frenchman Gregory Bourdy +1650 was in charge and in the lead with 18 holes to go a year ago before fading the last day. His course knowledge and past success are worth noting, giving Bourdy a solid chance for a strong performance and worth playing in all formats this week.
