Odds Analysis

Bernd Wiesberger +1850

What do you consider with Wiesberger? He obviously has good course form, as he finished second in this event last year but he has not played well of late and missed the cut last week in Switzerland. I think he is overvalued at these odds.

Joost Luiten +1850

The defending champion has won this event twice and probably should be the favorite over Wiesberger but there are similar concerns about the recent form of Luiten, as he has not finished in the top 25 in any of his last six starts. I also think he is overvalued this week.

Ryan Fox +2050

It was a good week for Fox last week at Crans-sur-Sierre with a tie for 9th. He has four top ten finishes in his last seven starts. This will be the first time he will be playing the KLM Open but he is worth considering.

David Horsey +2250

Horsey finished fourth in this event last year. He played well in Switzerland last week, especially in the final three rounds, shooting 66-68-68. Horsey could be worth a look this week.

Lee Westwood +2250

Why not Westwood this week at odds of +2250? He celebrated last week in Switzerland, as it was his 500th European Tour event. He should be more focused on golf this week and he normally plays well in bad weather.

Fabrizio Zanotti +3550

I think this is the week to take longshots, as I really am not confident in any of the favorites. I like Zanotti, as he finished third last week in Switzerland and he has played well in this event with a second in 2010, a fourth in 2015 and he tied for 16th last year.

Chris Wood +4550

My other longshot this week is Wood, who does well on links courses and in the wind. He didn’t play well in this event a year ago which was a surprise, but he did well at the Open Championship this year. I think he has a real shot to win at +4550.

Course: The Dutch hosted the KLM Open for the first time last year. The course is a par 71 that features a lot of water, as water comes into play on 12 of the holes. The course opened in 2011 and it is short at 6,983 yards.

Notes: Only two players have won their home event, Maarten Lafeber in 2003 and Luiten in 2013 and 2016. The KLM Open was first played in 1912 and this will be the 98th edition. It has been played every year since 1972. Rain is in the forecast for all four days of this year’s tournament with wind also expected to be a factor.
