World No. 11 Jon Rahm headlines the field for the HNA Open de France, which begins on Thursday at Le Golf National just outside of Paris, France. A solid field is assembled, with 12 of the world’s Top 50 expected to compete. Rahm is favored at odds of +1000, with Francesco Molinari the second choice at +1400. It is an important tournament for many players, because Le Golf National will host next year’s Ryder Cup.

Odds Analysis

Jon Rahm +1050

There is no doubting the talent of Rahm but I am not picking him to win this week. Rahm is good at scrambling, as he ranks 22nd on the PGA Tour and he will need to be great this week because he figures to miss a lot of fairways. He is 125th in accuracy off the tee and I just can’t see him winning at Le Golf National playing from the rough or playing from the bunker.

Francesco Molinari +1450

You can make a strong case that Molinari should be favored this week. He finished second in this event last year, in 2010 and in 2012, and he comes into this year’s tournament in good form, as he finished in the top 10 at Sawgrass.

Alex Noren +1850

Noren has a similar resume for this tournament to Molinari. He finished tied for 8th in this event last year and he tied for 15th in 2012. He is a solid scrambler so if he can get the putter going he should be a threat this week.

Bernd Wiesberger +2050

He won this event two years ago, shooting 13-under par. He has had four top 20 finishes this year and he has the type of game to do well at Le Golf National.

Tommy Fleetwood +2250

He is in really good form lately with a fourth at the U.S. Open and a tie for 6th last week in Germany. The problem with taking him in this event is that he has played Le Golf National four times and missed the cut each time.

Martin Kaymer +2550

I sure can’t figure out Kaymer, as I thought he would play well last week in Germany and he flopped, missing the cut. He has been very good at Le Golf National with a win in 2009 and five other finishes in the top 7. It would be just like him to play great this week after stinking it up last week.

Matthew Fitzpatrick +2850

I really like Fitzpatrick this week, as this course demands good putting and Fitzpatrick is one of the best putters in the world. He will be really focused for this event because he wants to play on the Ryder Cup team next year at this locale.

Andrew Johnston +6550

Fans will be cheering loudly for Beef this week and he could be a live longshot. He won in France on the Challenge Tour in 2014 and he should do well at Le Golf National.

Graeme Storm +10000

I rarely put a huge longshot on this list but why not Storm to win this week? He won this event in 2007, finished in the top three in 2013 and his form is decent, as he tied for 6th at Wentworth.

Course: Le Golf National is a par 71, which measures 7,249 yards. It is a stadium-style course that features links-style bunkers, undulating fairways and a number of water hazards. The course has hosted the Open de France in every year since 1991 except 1999 and 2001.

Notes: Le Golf National is not a long course, so golfers who rank highly in greens in regulation should do well. Other key stats to keep in mind are driving accuracy, scrambling and putting average.
