DP World Tour Championship Preview, Odds and Predictions

DP-World-Tour-Championship-Odds-To-Win---Euro

The final event of the European Tour season is the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. Tommy Fleetwood leads the standings, but Justin Rose and Sergio Garcia still have a chance to win the championship. Both Rose and Garcia are in excellent form, as Garcia won in Spain in his last event, while Rose won in China and in Turkey before taking last week off. Rose is the favorite to win this week’s tournament in Dubai at odds of +650, while Garcia is the second choice at odds of +1150.

Odds Analysis

Justin Rose +650

Rose is in better form right now than anyone in the world, as he is coming off wins in China and Turkey. He has played well in this event in the past with a second place finish in 2012 and in 2014. I sure can’t argue with him being the favorite this week.

Sergio Garcia +1150

I think Garcia is overvalued at these odds. He has never finished in the top six in this event and I think there are better options this week.

Jon Rahm +1250

You would think this course would favor Rahm, as it is long and has big fairways. The concern with taking Rahm is that he looks tired after a long year.

Branden Grace +1450

I really liked Grace last week and mentioned I thought he should be favored and he ended up winning. I don’t like his chances nearly as much this week. I think he has a big letdown after his home win last week in South Africa. The one positive is that he has three top ten finishes in this event.

Matthew Fitzpatrick +1650

Fitzpatrick is the defending champion and he is in fine form with seven straight top 15 finishes. I think he is a little bit overvalued at these odds simply because the field is so strong.

Tyrrell Hatton +1650

Hatton could be an interesting darkhorse, as he finished second last year in this event, tied for 6th in 2014 and tied for 13th in 2015. He tied for 3rd in the Dubai Desert Classic earlier this year.

Francesco Molinari +2050

I am surprised that Molinari has done so well in this event, as he is not the longest off the tee. He has six finishes of tie for 16th or better. He comes in playing well and should be in the mix this week.

Victor Dubuisson +2050

If you want to back Dubuisson this week you have some good stats on your side, as Dubuisson nearly won in South Africa last week and he has played well in this event with a tie for 2nd, a tie for 3rd and a tie for 4th.

Tommy Fleetwood +2250

The Race to Dubai leader has pressure on him to win but if Rose or Garcia falters, he may just be able to play it safe to win the Championship. I think Fleetwood is overvalued at these odds. Fatigue could also be a factor as Rose and Garcia are rested, while Fleetwood is not.

Thomas Pieters +5550

My longshot this week is Pieters who is a big bomber who should do well on this course. He has a tie for 2nd and a tie for 4th in this event.

Course: This event takes place at Jumeriah Golf Estates, which is a par 72 that measures 7,675 yards. Low scoring has been the norm on this course, as seven of the last eight winners have shot 16-under par or better. Distance off the tee will be a key stat to consider this week on a course that features large greens.
