Odds Analysis

Thomas Pieters +950

You have to give Pieters a big chance to win this week, as he has a win and a second in the last two years in this event. He is a big hitter and length is crucial at Albatross. I have no idea what happened to him last week in Denmark, but he has the talent to turn it around in one week.

Jordan Smith +1250

The rookie just continues to shine, as he won the European Open in July and then played well in the PGA Championship. He played the Czech Challenge last year and finishes second, so he has a familiarity in the country.

Matthew Fitzpatrick +1650

I think there is a lot of value on Fitzpatrick at these odds, as he has finished third and fifth in this event in the past. He needs a big effort this week to get his Ryder Cup bid going.

Martin Kaymer +1850

This will be the first start for Kaymer in this event and it is hard to get too excited about his chances, as he has no Top 20 finishes since the Masters. He tied for 31st at the Made In Denmark last week.

Jamie Donaldson +2050

Donaldson won this event in 2014 and he does have four top 20 finishes in his last seven starts, so he might be able to get into the mix on Sunday.

Thomas Detry +3050

My first longshot this week is Detry who finished second in Germany in late June and he played well last weekend in Denmark with a 65-69 on the weekend. His putting has been excellent of late and that is good news heading to Albatross.

Aaron Rai +3550

My other longshot is Rai who can get really hot with the putter. He tied for 10th last week in Denmark and he could contend this week.

Course: Albatross Golf Resort is a par 72 that measures 7,467 yards. Length off the tee will be very important this week, as there are two holes that measure over 600 yards. Par 5 scoring is critical and last year’s winner Paul Peterson was second in Par 5 scoring in the event. The first two winners of this tournament, Jamie Donaldson and Thomas Pieters took full advantage of the Par 5’s to win.

Notes: Even though length is definitely important on this course, short hitters have held their own simply because putting is of paramount importance. Last year, Peterson and Pieters dominated on the greens and they finished first and second. Keep in mind that rain is in the forecast for Sunday’s final round.
