Thomas Pieters is getting a lot of respect from oddsmakers again this week, as he is listed as the favorite to win the Czech Masters. Pieters did not play well last week in Denmark as the favorite, but he has played well in Prague in the past, and he is the only player listed at odds of less than +1000. We went 2-2 last week with the matchup picks in the Made In Denmark. Let’s look at the odds and picks for this week’s Czech Masters.

Czech Masters Matchup Picks

Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. This will be the fourth edition of this event at Albatross Golf Resort. The previous three winners were Jamie Donaldson, Thomas Pieters and Paul Peterson. Distance off the tee is normally a key to winning this event, but last year Peterson surprised many people, as he won with his hot putting. This week’s tournament in Prague will be the first tournament that counts toward 2018 European Ryder Cup team qualification.

Thomas Pieters -125 vs. Matthew Fitzpatrick

Pieters didn’t play well in Denmark last week but he has been known to follow up a bad tournament with a good one. Pieters definitely has the length to do well at Albatross and he has had a lot of past success in this event. Fitzpatrick has also done well in this tournament but he hasn’t played well in some time and I think Pieters is the better choice in this matchup.

Lee Westwood -120 vs. Julian Suri

Suri won last week in Denmark and it is really hard to follow up a great tournament with another one. Westwood is looking for his first win since 2015 but he has still played well, making the cut in 15 of his last 17 events. Westwood tied for 27th in this event a year ago and I expect a better finish this time around.

Lee Westwood +129 vs. Martin Kaymer

I am really surprised Kaymer is such a big favorite over Westwood. He has not finished in the top 30 since April. He didn’t play well last week in Denmark and it is hard to see him turning things around this week, as he makes his debut in this event. I will take the plus price on Westwood.

Jamie Donaldson +100 vs. Aaron Rai

Donaldson won this event in 2014 and he comes in playing well, as he won two matches at the Paul Lawrie Match Play. He has only played 16 events this season, but he knows this course well and has had success. I will take Donaldson at even money in this matchup.

Haydn Porteous -108 vs. Ashley Chesters

Porteous is one of the big bombers on the European Tour, as he ranks 7th in driving distance. Despite the win by Peterson last year, distance is still the key to winning at Albatross. Chesters is just 212th in driving distance, so if distance is the most important statistic this week, Porteous should win this matchup.
