The Desert Swing continues on the European Tour with this week’s Commercial Bank Qatar Masters which gets started January 26-29 live at Doha Golf Club in Doha, Qatar.

The tournament continues to flourish and has attracted a strong field this year headlined by Alex Noren +1200, Rafa Cabrera-Bello +1750 and Martin Kaymer +1250. Noren won four times last year and is currently the No. 9 ranked player in the world. Bello enjoyed arguably his best-ever year in 2016, finishing eighth on The Race to Dubai Rankings and Kaymer has had huge success playing in the desert with three wins in Dubai.

The field also includes 2013 champion Chris Wood +4000, his 2016 Ryder Cup teammate Andy Sullivan +3350, Graeme McDowell +2550, Bernd Wiesberger +1250 and last week’s winner Tommy Fleetwood +1850.

Missing from the field is two-time defending champion Branden Grace who surprisingly decided to skip the event.

ODDS ANALYSIS

CHALK: ALEX NOREN +1200

If I had to choose between the favorites, the Swede would be my pick. I like him over Martin Kaymer, Bernd Wiesberger and Rafa Cabrera-Bello. Noren plays well week after week. He finished T13 last week in Dubai, which wasn’t that great but wasn’t that bad either. He is ranked in the top ten in the world, but still is an undervalued player.

FADE: GRAEME McDOWELL +2550

He hasn’t teed it up in months and I would be reluctant to use him until I see some results. His last tournament was at the OHL Classic in Mexico where he tied for 24th. His record in Qatar is average at best. In the last six years he’s played just once with a T59 in 2012. McDowell will likely be paired up against a top notch player in the golf matchups and no matter who he is paired up against, FADE HIM, it’s easy money!

FLIER: PETER HANSON +3500

It’s been five years since the tall Swede captured his last win on the European Tour, but he continues to pound the bank with top finishes week after week. In his last three European Tour starts he’s gone 8-29-4. The T8 came in Abu Dhabi last week, where he shot four solid rounds and finished 3rd in the All-Around. Hanson is a former runner-up in Qatar and has cashed in his last nine starts. The Swede is a sneaky pick this week that will not disappoint.
