BookMaker Sportsbook offers multiple types of futures wagering for myriad sports. These bets have a long-term settle date. You can gamble on team win totals, which teams will make the College Football Playoff and, of course, the National Championship.
Payouts for futures bets are usually better than even, or greater than +100, so the amount staked is much less than the potential payout. Of course, the inherent risk of futures betting is the unknown of the future.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF
To say the first year of the new College Football Playoff format was a success would be quite the understatement. Already a cash cow for the NCAA, television networks and the individual schools, college football reached new heights during the 2014 season, culminated with the new four-team playoff format to determine the National Champion on the field for the first time. According to the NCAA more than 33 million Americans watched the national championship game in 2015, which was played before a crowd of over 85,000 at ATT Stadium. The game was even named the Sports Event of the Year by the SportsBusiness Journal.
Of course the new format wasn’t without controversy. A majority of college football fans enjoyed the three Playoff Bowl games featuring the top teams in the country, though folks in Waco and Fort Worth, Texas, as well as the Big 12 Conference, would dispute the top teams were actually competing. But let’s face it, someone will always be pissed off when decisions about their future are made by others.
The big talk last season was would the new format diminish the importance and take away from the bowl games with teams just worried about the playoffs. Well, that point was put to rest with attendance and viewing audience at the games every bit as good as it’s been. All in all, the playoff system was much-needed and long overdue. The Football Championship Subdivision – formerly Division 1-AA – has been using a playoff system to determine its champion for, well, forever. And it’s worked out remarkably well. It appears as though the question now is not how long the playoff system will be in effect, rather when will the field expand from four to eight teams.

The defending National Champion Ohio State Buckeyes are the odds-on favorite to repeat with a win in Glendale, Ariz., in 2016. But remember, Ohio State shocked everyone last season by sneaking into the College Football Playoff then winning the national title with a rout of Oregon. The Buckeyes certainly have the weapons on their roster and a favorable schedule to get them back to the playoff, but it’s always difficult to repeat.
Using a perceived snub from last year’s playoff field, the TCU Horned Frogs are a motivated group entering the 2015 season. They’re also pretty darn good, which explains why at +800, TCU is a favorite to win the National Championship in 2016. Not playing a conference championship game may have cost the Frogs last season, but realistically, I don’t think they were as good as the four teams that qualified for the playoff. Heck, some will say TCU wasn’t the best team in the Big 12 – they did lose to Baylor during the regular season. The offense remains intact for 2015, but there is work to be done on defense. The Frogs will likely need to score 50 points a game to even sniff a playoff bid.
The Bayou Bengals haven’t been legitimate National Championship contenders for some time, but head coach Les Miles has the horses at LSU to make a serious run in 2015. Their SEC schedule is light by conference standards and really, the only thing that stands in their way is a matchup at Alabama. The pieces are in place and if quarterback Anthony Jennings shows some improvement the Tigers could be competing for the college football championship. LSU has some value at +2758 and one loss in the SEC West should be enough to get them enough votes with a strong conference bias still very much prevalent.
