Overwatch Stage Two Week Two Betting Preview

eSports-Coverage-3-1-bm

The Overwatch League is back in action and we’re off to a great start after the first break. The signing period saw many teams make moves, with some of those new acquisitions making an instant impact in the first week of Stage Two. Former London Spitfire players Rascal and Fissure played key roles in their new teams’ wins, while aKM proved that he was the DPS player that the Dallas Fuel needed in order to start playing better. Will any of the other mid-season acquisitions reward their teams in Week Two?

Overwatch Stage Two Week Two Betting Odds

New York Excelsior -450
Boston Uprising +300

Both the Excelsior and the Uprising have decided to stay pat so far. However, both squads may decide to fill out their rosters over the next few weeks.

Boston was the most disappointing team of the first week of Stage Two. After being the most surprising team of Stage One, narrowly missing out on a playoff spot, the Uprising failed to win a map off of either Houston or Philadelphia.

No one played well for Boston in the two losses. DreamKazper and Striker struggled to inflict as much damage as their DPS counterparts, and neither the tank or support play was there as well.

New York suffered another narrow loss at the hands of London in the first week of action, but this is still one of the top teams in the league. The DPS play is superb, yet the support play is something to keep an eye on. Ark and JJoNak were the best support tandem in Stage One, but much of that was due to Ark’s great play on Mercy. With Mercy being nerfed, it will be interesting to see if they remain on top.

The Excelsior are undervalued in this one. New York should be closer to -600 after what we saw out of Boston, so go ahead and back the favorite.

London Spitfire -6600
Florida Mayhem +1200

I’m not going to advocate taking a -6600 favorite, but that doesn’t mean the underdog is a good play either in this one. London won Stage One with some great performances from Profit, Bdosin, and birdring, and are the favorite to win this stage. Even after the loss to Houston, this team has a very high ceiling and has done a great job of fitting some of their bench players into specialized roles.

Florida is…well, Florida. Give credit to the Mayhem for continuing to keep their spirits high, but they would be the worst team in the league if not for Shanghai. The hope is for new additions Zappis, Sayaplayer, and aWesomeGuy to gel with other team members quickly to give this team more adaptability, but we did not see great results in the first week of action.

Houston Outlaws -275
Philadelphia Fusion +200

The Fusion were the only team to not drop a map in the first week of Stage Two. They hammered Boston and Florida with Eqo emerging as a potential star in the making. Many observers scratched their heads when Eqo replaced ShaDowBurn in the team’s starting lineup, but he fit in well with Philadelphia’s aggressive dive mentality.

However, Houston should be a bigger favorite. The Outlaws showed that they are serious contenders for the Stage Two crown after knocking off London and dismantling Boston. The DPS duo of Jake and LiNkzr get most of the attention, but Muma might be the best tank in the league. He has been fantastic on both Reinhardt and Winston, with his Earthshatters coming up big.
