eSports-Coverage-bm-2-23

After a short break, the Overwatch League is back in action. We have already seen some thrilling gameplay this week as new roster additions and new maps have shaken up the status quo. On Thursday, the Houston Outlaws upended the London Spitfire 3-2 in a thrilling series, while later in the day, Philadelphia Fusion’s new addition Eqo showed that he could play with the best in the world. Thanks to some fantastic Genji play, he helped Philadelphia dominate the Boston Uprising on the first map en route to a 4-0 sweep.

Overwatch Stage Two Week One Betting Odds

London Spitfire -161
New York Excelsior +126

It’s not going to take long for the New York Excelsior to get some revenge. New York lost in the Stage One Finals to the London Spitfire two weeks ago, despite being the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. The Excelsior had knocked off the Spitfire earlier in the day, and they were favored going into the title match. Things got off to a good start for New York, who won the first two maps, but then the script flipped.

Thanks to some great play from Profit, London was able to win the next three maps and pick up the reverse sweep to win the Stage One title. Profit emerged as the perfect complement to birdring, who was one of the top DPS players in the league. According to Winston’s Lab, Profit was the top performer in the league on Genji, Junkrat, and Tracer, three heroes who were all heavily in the meta.

Provided New York figures out how to balance their DPS players, this is the top team in the league. Jjonak and Ark were the best support tandem by a wide margin and Stage One, but the team needs to figure out how to juggle Pine, Libero, and Saebyeolbe. I think they are slightly better than London at the moment, so jump on the Excelsior as an underdog here.

Los Angeles Gladiators -154
Dallas Fuel +119

The Los Angeles Gladiators were one of the teams that seemed to get demonstrably better in their first match with the addition of Fissure. Fissure was part of the Spitfire in Stage One, but never broke into the starting lineup, so he became expendable. He immediately stepped into the starting lineup as the team’s main tank replacing iRemiix, who had his share of struggles.

Meanwhile, Dallas showed off some of its new roster additions too. The Fuel went aggressive in their first match against Shanghai, starting three players who are primarily in DPS roles. Seagull was benched in favor of one of two new additions depending on the map, Rascal or aKm, and it paid off with a win.

I love the Gladiators in this one. Los Angeles has a much better support tandem then Dallas, and that will be the key in a 3-1 Gladiators win.

Seoul Dynasty -1000
San Francisco Shock +500

Last split we learned that you can’t take too many massive favorites, but this line is about right. There were clearly some internal issues within Seoul’s team last split. The Dynasty started off strong, but were juggling lineups in the middle of the season and surprisingly ended up missing the playoffs after the Shock took them to a fifth game.

San Francisco was pummeled by the LA Gladiators to start Stage Two. The Shock are continuing to count down the days until sinatraa is available to come into the lineup, because until then the team lacks a playmaker to compliment babybay.

This line might seem off considering these teams went to a fifth map two weeks ago, but Seoul is much more comfortable in this meta. Many of the team’s issues stemmed from the Dynasty not having a competent Mercy on the roster. Now that Mercy is no longer a must start after her nerfs, Seoul should cruise.
