Overwatch League Week Two Betting Preview

eSports-Coverage-1-18-18

There isn’t a game hotter than Overwatch right now. The first week of the Overwatch League posted impressive viewership numbers, and it looks like Blizzard’s gamble may have paid off.

In Week One, the chalk held up for the most part. The Philadelphia Fusion and Boston Uprising were the only two underdogs that won, and neither team was too big of an underdog on the betting line. Will the second week of action have something different in store?

Overwatch League Week Two Betting Odds
Dallas Fuel -263
Houston Outlaws +200

Texas’ two teams were supposed to be the best Western teams in the league. Dallas and Houston have some very skilled players and had some experience playing together on prior teams.

However, both teams disappointed in Week One, failing to win a match. Houston was upset by Philadelphia and got thumped by New York, while Dallas hung tough with Seoul before suffering a surprising loss to the Valiant.

The Outlaws got in the win column with a victory over Shanghai, while the Fuel have yet to play in Week Two. Although the Fuel are sizeable favorites, back the Outlaws in this one. They took Dallas to a decisive fifth game in preseason, and Jake and Linkzr have shown good chemistry. The Fuel have had some trouble finding a good compliment to Taimou and that will hurt them here.

New York Excelsior -222
Los Angeles Valiant +170

Although the Los Angeles Valiant are the only team in the Overwatch League to have not lost a map, they are the underdog heading into this one. To some that may be interesting to see. The Valiant easily beat the San Francisco Shock and the Dallas Fuel, the latter team being the one that many were picking to be the best side in North America.

The Excelsior were seen as one of the favorites to win the league prior to the start of the season, and they have done nothing to dissuade any of the experts. They knocked off both Boston and Houston 3-1, and have the best substitute in the league.

One of the biggest stories of Week One was the play of Pine on Control maps. Pine’s McCree play has been phenomenal and his aggressive play has completely thrown teams out of sorts. He is sometimes a little too reckless and that’s probably why he hasn’t cracked the staring lineup, but he turns the tide on the third map.

Philadelphia Fusion -172
Los Angeles Gladiators +134

The Fusion have been one of the nice surprises thus far. Philadelphia did not take part in the preseason, so the team was a big unknown heading into Week One. They picked up an impressive win over Houston before getting hammered by the London Spitfire, but held on to get a win over San Francisco on Wednesday.

LA’s second team hammered the worst team in the league in its opener, but got hammered itself by the best team in the league in its second game. That makes the Gladiators something of an unknown commodity in their own right.

DPS play will be the main attraction in this one. Both of these teams have fantastic DPS players, with the Gladiators boasting Surefour, Asher, and Hydration, while the Fusion have Shadowburn and Carpe. However, the game will turn on the play of Philadelphia’s superior tanks. Fragi has been great and PoKo has been a nice surprise with his play on D.Va. The Fusion should get the win in this one.
