Overwatch League Week Three Betting Preview

eSports Coverage preview

Through the first two weeks of the first stage of the Overwatch League, one thing is clear. The Korean teams are just as good as we were led to believe. The Seoul Dynasty, London Spitfire, and New York Excelsior are all undefeated at the top of the table. There is a clear gap between those teams and the rest of the OWL, but one of them is bound to lose their first game on Friday. That’s when the Seoul Dynasty and New York Excelsior square off for the first time this season.

Seoul vs. New York is the most anticipated match of the week, but there are still some other intriguing matchups. There is still the matter of determining the best of the Western teams, and there is a 2-2 logjam to break. Let’s get into the action.

Overwatch League Week Three Betting Odds

Seoul Dynasty -188

New York Excelsior +137

The Dynasty might have the three best players in the league in Tobi, Fleta, and Ryujehong. The trio has kept up the Lunatic Hai tradition of winning with each playing an integral part in Seoul’s success. Ryujehong’s play on Zenyatta in particular has been out of this world, as he can turn the normally defensive support into an offensive juggernaut.

Birdring and Bdosin are out to prove that New York is really the best team in the Overwatch League. Birdring has been one of the best DPS players in the league, with phenomenal play on open maps with Widowmaker. Bdosin will be countering Ryujehong on Zenyatta for much of this series, and he needs to be able to hold his own against the best player in the world.

Seoul looked a little out of sorts against Shanghai on Wednesday night, but that was largely because they were spending more time prepping for New York. Look for the Dynasty to come out and get a 3-1 victory here.

Philadelphia Fusion -1500

Shanghai Dragons +700

Kudos to you if you got Shanghai earlier in the week when they were an absurd +1400. The Dragons looked completely out of sorts last week, and you could tell they were disheartened at the tail end of their two series. However, this is still a talented team and they finally played more to their strengths against Seoul. It’s largely mental with this team right now, and if they can solve that they will be fine.

Philadelphia’s strength is in its DPS play. Shadowburn and Carpe have proven to be a very good pair, with the former being exceptional on Genji and the latter being a solid jack of all trades. Additionally, Poko has been a great D.Va player, picking up tons of kills with the self-destruct ultimate. The support play is questionable though, and that’s where this team is vulnerable.

Even though these odds have been halved, Shanghai is still worth a shot at +700 and should win at least one map.

Dallas Fuel -200

San Francisco Shock +150

Despite being 0-4, there is still plenty of love for the Dallas Fuel. Dallas has had some major communication issues, and the shotcalling has not been there when it has been needed the most. The DPS play is not what we were expecting out of this team, and HarryHook and chipshajen have been caught out too much. Still, this is a very talented roster that should turn things around in time.

That being said, San Francisco should be favored here. The Shock turned a lot of heads with their play last week and have had multiple players outperform expectations. DhaK and Sleepy have been good supports, and Danteh has been a surprisingly good flex player. Take the Shock to get the win in this series.
