Misfits Team Preview

LoL-World-Championship-Team-Preview-9

This last split was a trying one for Misfits. They finished 6-7 and barely made it to the playoffs. However, instead of getting bounced early, this team played its best League of Legends ever in the playoffs.

Misfits surprised everyone by sweeping Unicorns of Love in the Quarterfinals and then followed that up with a stunning upset of Fnatic in the Semifinals. They ended up being swept themselves by G2 in the Finals, but the win gave them enough points to automatically qualify for Worlds.

Misfits +6000

Top Lane

Alphari has not been playing League of Legends for very long. He only started playing in 2015, but has been with Misfits since its inception.

Unlike many EU top laners who are asked to just hold down the fort and play a tank, Alphari is constantly asked to select carry champions and win his lane. His three most played champions in the Summer Split were Jarvan IV, Rumble, and Renekton, and he dabbled on other power picks.

He has barely played tanks like Maokai and Shen, so his lane will be something to watch in the laning phase.

Jungle

Maxlore has bounced around the European circuit for some time now, but finally found a home with Misfits before this year’s Summer Split. He isn’t able to carry like former jungler KaKAO could, but contributes in other ways. He has been very good at helping his lanes get ahead through ganks and is great in team fights too.

In this group he will be tested by two great junglers, Karsa and Condi. He will need to be able to weather their early aggression if Misfits is to advance.

Mid Lane

The undisputed leader and best player on Misfits is PowerOfEvil. He had a season for the ages in the 2017 Summer Split, putting Misfits on his back and carrying them to their spot at Worlds.

PowerOfEvil was phenomenal on Orianna, posting a 9.6 KDA on the champion during the regular season. Although that pick failed him against Perkz, he showed that he could play Syndra during the postseason too. He tallied 15 kills and 10 assists on the champion, with zero deaths, in two playoff wins for Misfits while playing her.

Misfits plays through PowerOfEvil and depends on him to win his lane in order to win. If he can’t do that, this team is dead in the water.

AD Carry

For an AD Carry in the current meta, Hans Sama has a rather limited champion pool. He only played eight different champions through all of summer and never touched popular picks like Kog’Maw and Twitch. Although he played it, he wasn’t a very good Xayah either, with Misfits going 3-8 when he was on the champion between the regular season and the playoffs.

To his credit, he has been great on Tristana. Misfits is 5-0 when he plays the Yordle Gunner, with Hans Sama touting a KDA over 10 on the champion. He hasn’t fared well on other AD Carries that are popular in the meta though and that will hurt Misfits here.

Support

The current engage support meta has been a good one for IgNar. IgNar has been solid throughout the split and has helped this team win a number of team fights by landing a big hook with Blitzcrank or Thresh. Unlike many supports, he doesn’t stay in the bottom lane either. He has been known to roam to the mid-lane to help PowerOfEvil, a move that has caught many opponents off guard.

Prediction

Although Misfits are in one of the easier groups, this team just doesn’t have enough firepower to compete. PowerOfEvil is great, but every other team in Group D has a great mid laner to counter him with. Misfits will win a game or two, and will finish last in the group.
