eSports-Coverage-06-23-0bm

Summer is officially here and the action is heating up across the Rift. Three teams are tied atop the table at 5-1 and two of those will be squaring off in the first match of the week. The bottom of the table will see some action too as two teams that look destined to be relegated square off. Each team in North America will play two games thanks to North America’s action-packed schedule. This will be the penultimate week before the top teams head to Rift Rivals and there’s plenty at stake.

CLG -120

Immortals -120

A battle between two of the top teams in North America kicks off the action this week.

Counter Logic Gaming has looked like the team to beat in North America this split. After a lackluster spring, the team went out and acquired a new jungler in Dardoch who has helped them be more successful. The star of the squad has been Stixxay, who is racking up the kills as the top AD Carry in the region through the first three weeks. He has a 6.2 KDA, second-best in all of North America, and the highest damage per minute rate in the region. Stixxay has a clear advantage over Cody Sun in this one.

It took a split to learn how to play without top-lane star Huni, but Immortals is looking like a brand new team in summer. Many considered it a downgrade when the team swapped Dardoch for CLG’s Xmithie, but the chemistry that Xmithie has with mid-laner Pobelter has fueled Immortals resurgence. Flame has steadied himself in the top-lane too to make this team one of the squads to watch out for.

Team SoloMid -350

FlyQuest +250

TSM is still struggling to find its way. Those who thought that the re-signing of Doublelift would immediately make this team the unequivocal best in North America have been mistaken. This team is lacking the synergy that we saw in each of the last two splits and are losing the early game way too often. The individual skill of the players has typically resulted in TSM pulling out wins, but they haven’t really looked convincing. Even jungler Svenskeren has noted the team’s coordination problems and how difficult it has been to work on them.

Long-time TSM AD Carry WildTurtle will want to knock off his former team quite badly. Fans of TSM had a love-hate relationship with WildTurtle as he could make a great play one minute and then follow that up with a very questionable decision. He has been reunited with some of his former teammates, but FlyQuest has not found the same success it did in spring. The team is 1-5, but consider this a nice spot for an upset.

Phoenix1 -120

Team Liquid -120

Continuing the trend of players facing off against their former teams, Inori will suit up for Team Liquid against his former team Phoenix1 in one of the last matches of the week.

Both of these teams are a mess. Despite having a lot of money behind them, Team Liquid has really struggled to figure out how to build a winning lineup this season. Goldenglue might be the worst mid-laner in all of North America and has twice as many deaths as kills through six weeks of action. Having a notoriously toxic player like Piglet as your AD Carry only makes matters worse.

No team has fallen further than Phoenix1 between spring and summer. Phoenix1 finished in third place in both the regular season and the playoffs in North America during spring, but has yet to win a match this summer. After three team members left in the offseason, and Inori was recently traded to Liquid, this team is struggling to find the same chemistry that worked so well.
