League of Legends NA LCS Spring Split Quarterfinals Betting Preview

2018-ESPORTS-LOL-Betting-Odds

Last Sunday gave us one of the wildest finishes we have ever seen in North American League of Legends. Due to the NA LCS switching over to a best-of-one format this year, the final standings had multiple ties, meaning that tiebreakers needed to be played in order to separate the teams. Over the course of a record five tiebreakers, everything was sorted out, as no seed was determined before these secondary matches. That led to a long night for every team involved.

League of Legends NA LCS Spring Split Quarterfinals Betting Odds

Team Liquid -150
Cloud9 +125

As always, there was plenty of hype surrounding Liquid heading into the year. However, this time the team lived up to it for a while. The bottom lane of Doublelift and Olleh got off to a great start, with Doublelift backing up some of his preseason smack talk. Pobelter looked like a great addition in the mid lane too, and Impact and Xmithie were adjusting to their new roles.

Liquid’s performance dropped off a bit starting with Patch 8.4 though. The team did rally in order to grab the No. 4 seed over Cloud9, yet did not look like the dominant force we saw through the first few weeks of action. Still, you can’t count out any team with a playmaker like Doublelift, especially with great table-setters like Pobelter and Olleh around him.

Cloud9’s new top laner Licorice has had an up and down split. The team has showed a lot of trust in the newcomer, and that has come with its benefits. He has initiated quite a few fights and is a pretty big damage dealer for a top laner. However, he has also died a ton. That does come with the territory, but some of his deaths were definitely avoidable.

Sneaky and Smoothie have not put up great numbers this season, but they are one of the better bottom lanes in North America. The duo can effectively counter Liquid’s pressure, and Jensen is capable of outplaying Pobelter in the mid lane. Pobelter dies a ton for a mid laner and Jensen can jump on him in the early game. That makes Cloud9 a very live dog here, and I believe they will pull off the slight upset.

Team SoloMid -325
Clutch Gaming +265

If you only look at KDA, you’d be surprised that Clutch Gaming ended up as the No. 6 seed. Three players (Solo, Febiven, and Hakuho) are the KDA leaders in their positions, with the other two in the top half of the league. However, KDA isn’t all that wins games.

Clutch made its mark by beating all the bad teams in North America. They went 8-0 against non-playoff teams, but went just 3-8 against playoff teams. Clutch did go 2-0 against TSM in the regular season, but lost in the tiebreaker to the defending champs.

Team SoloMid was the hottest team in North America to end the season. They routed their competition over the last half of the season, beating every other playoff team except 100 Thieves. Bjergsen showed why he is still widely considered the best mid laner in North America, and after some early struggles Zven and mithy finally began to adapt to TSM’s play style.

There are going to be two keys to this series. First, the battle in the mid lane. Febiven might be the Spring Split MVP for his performances with Clutch Gaming, as he has been extremely impressive. However, he will probably be on the back foot against Bjergsen and will need to make something happen in his match-up.

Additionally, the match-up in the bottom lane will be interesting. Clutch asks Hakuho to play a lot of damage dealing champions for a support, while mithy plays a more traditional role in just keeping Zven safe. The latter strategy seems to be working better in this meta, so look for TSM to have an advantage over Clutch here.
