League of Legends 2017 Worlds Semifinals Samsung Galaxy vs. Team WE Betting Preview

As for Team World Elite, they have not been the team that we expected. Although they had to advance through the qualifier in order to get to the Group Stage, they were the non-Korean team with the best odds to take down the title. They had a lot of trouble against Cloud9 in the Quarterfinals though and would have lost to a better team.

Samsung Galaxy -255
Team World Elite +210

This line is a reflection of what we saw last week in the Quarterfinals. At the beginning of the tournament, SSG would have been a slight favorite in a matchup against Team WE, but their performance last week against Longzhu was masterful.

Longzhu was seen as the second-favorite to win the tournament heading into the Knockout Stage after a fantastic performance in the Group Stage as the only team to emerge without a single loss. However, Samsung was able to force Longzhu into early game mistakes and ended up sending the Korean Summer Split champions crashing out in a 3-0 sweep.

Matchup to Watch

Both of these teams are known for their ability to win late game team fights. That has continually carried both teams to this point. Samsung might be the best late game team in the world. They have a roster that has been together for a long time and have done it against every team they have faced, even SKT.

Team WE is known for its prowess in the late game as well, and that’s the only reason it was able to get past Cloud9. Team WE was mechanically outplayed in the early game, but turned the tide multiple times in the late game to pull out a 3-2 win in the Quarterfinals.

With a week to prepare, most teams try something new in order to surprise their opponent. In this case, don’t be surprised if Team WE tries to change gears and get ahead on Samsung in the early game to snowball a lead that it can’t come back from. Samsung are better team fighters than Team WE and will likely out-draft them too.

Key Stat

CuVee was phenomenal in the Quarterfinals against Longzhu. He set the tone early with a surprise Kennen pick that threw Longzhu’s strategy of putting Jax in the top lane into disarray. It meant that CuVee was able to apply pressure to Jax and could still contribute in team fights. Additionally, he could access Longzhu’s back line and killed both Xayah and Syndra twice.

Samsung’s top laner ended the series with more traditional tank selections, taking Shen in each of the last two games. He was amazing on the champion and was able to keep Cho’Gath in check and help his team win crucial team fights on the front line. CuVee ended the series with a 9.0 KDA, unheard of for a top laner.

Prediction

Everything is pointing to a Samsung victory, but there is no denying that Team WE has as high a ceiling of any team at Worlds. Look at what they did in the second leg of Group Stage and at the Mid-Season Invitational, when they ran through every team in their path and looked like world beaters. At these odds, they are worth a chance.
