The first leg of Group D action was fascinating last week, and we can only hope for more of the same during the second leg on Saturday morning. Misfits, Team SoloMid, and Team World Elite are all tied at 2-1 in the group heading into Saturday’s matches. While TSM and Team WE were the two favorites and were expected to be in this spot, Misfits inclusion here in place of Flash Wolves is the most surprising development of the first week of games. Of the three European teams here at Worlds, Misfits were considered the weakest, so seeing them with more kills than Fnatic and G2 combined is quite surprising.

Misfits +125 Flash Wolves -155
Oddsmakers are still not giving any respect to Misfits in spite of their record. In the previous meeting between these two teams, Flash Wolves weren’t even able to get a kill on Misfits.
The pick and ban phase was huge last time these teams met, as Betty’s pick of Jinx fell flat, while Alphari’s Trundle selection proved to be huge. Trundle was able to free hit turrets and amass a huge gold lead over MMD’s Cho’Gath in the top lane. That allowed him to turn Trundle into a competent team fighter in the late game. To the surprise of no one, the other key factor was PowerOfEvil winning his match in the mid lane even if he didn’t have the CS numbers that Maple did.
It’s easy to say that Flash Wolves should be the favorites here because of perception and a botched draft, but remember that Flash Wolves have consistently underperformed at Worlds. This is a great spot to back Misfits in as an underdog.
Team SoloMid -111 Team World Elite -107
TSM won the first matchup between these two teams, and another victory would likely mean they will finish atop Group D. Bjergsen was the difference in the win for TSM in the last meeting. He was able to get a couple picks on xiye, and his initiation into team fights was superb. The play of Svenskeren was encouraging too as the maligned jungler cast a beautiful Gragas ultimate that swung a crucial fight TSM’s way.
I liked Team WE the first time these sides met, and even though TSM won the first matchup, I like them again. Team WE turned it on at this point during the Mid-Season Invitational, and has shown an ability to quickly adapt to other teams given a few days of video to review. This feels like a game where Team WE will show something we have never seen before and that will flummox TSM.
Team World Elite -152 Flash Wolves +133
Flash Wolves have been known to pull off huge upsets, but they were mechanically outplayed in their last meeting. Although FW picked up an ace in a team fight early on, they were getting outfarmed across the board and that came back to bite them. Flash Wolves never had the gold lead and that helped Mystic’s Twitch to become a monster in the late game.
Team WE will knock off Flash Wolves again because of a better draft and better mechanics. China’s best shot to win it all should be a bigger favorite than this.
Team SoloMid -231 Misfits +192
Once again, it’s a tale of no respect for Misfits. PowerOfEvil outdueled Bjergsen in the first meeting between these sides, and the bottom lane of Hans Sama and IgNar took Doublelift and Biofrost to school. Although TSM is a better side, getting Misfits at almost 2-1 makes taking a shot on them again a no brainer.
