League of Legends - 2017 LCS North America Summer Split

eSports-Coverage-bm-06-09

The first week of action in North America sent everyone into a tizzy. The two teams that were easily the best during the Spring Split went a combined 1-3 with the lone win being when one, Team SoloMid, beat the other, Cloud9. That was the first of nine weeks of Summer Split action, but highlighted that some of the changes certain teams made in the break may have paid off. On the other hand, teams like FlyQuest and Phoenix1 were left searching for answers.

Cloud9 -175

Phoenix1 +125

Don’t hit the panic button on Cloud9 yet. They lost to two of the traditional powers in North America and are the most likely 0-2 team to rally and make the postseason.

Ray has not had a good start to the season. Although he went against two of the best top laners in the region, he was behind his opponent most of the time. In five games he picked up just four kills, less than his support player, and had 18 deaths. Cloud9 wasn’t able to substitute him out either since Impact had not spend much time with the team in the break. Impact should get most of the play in this series.

Phoenix1 may have had the most disappointing opening week of any team. They finished third in the Spring Split, but are 0-2 after an extremely disappointing first two games. A loss to Immortals isn’t bad, but losing to Team Envy is worrisome. They went 3-15 in the Spring Split and were considered very likely to finish in the cellar again.

Ryu has racked up a lot of deaths early on this season. Phoenix1’s mid laner has nine more deaths than any other mid laner in North America thus far and has the fourth-worst KDA. He has battled, picking up 20 kills this year, but is dying way too often.

Immortals -350

FlyQuest +250

Immortals has been fantastic through the first week of the season. The team that was considered a disappointment in Spring Split bested Phoenix 1 and TSM and looked like they could be the team to beat in North America.

Flame has been fantastic in the top lane for Immortals in the early going. He destroyed Hauntzer in their individual matchup and has a dazzling 11.3 KDA through one week, the best in North America. Shen and Renekton have been his champions of choice so don’t be surprised to see FlyQuest strategize around that.

FlyQuest has gotten killed in the top lane. Balls has had a woeful start to the season and is getting repeatedly ganked up top. He has to start playing better.

WildTurtle hasn’t been bad at all in his return to FlyQuest. He doesn’t have the stats that he did on TSM, but has played well enough.

Team SoloMid -150

Counter Logic Gaming +110

The two biggest rivals in North America are set to square off once more. CLG looks set to compete for the crown this split. Darshan and Stixxay have been great in their roles and once Dardoch finds his footing in the jungle, this will be one of the toughest teams to beat.

TSM is going to need a better performance from Hauntzer. He was really hit or miss at MSI and the early returns from this split leave a lot to be desired. He typically fares well against Darshan, but we’ll see what happens this time.
