LCS North America Summer Split Playoffs Betting Preview

eSports-Coverage-bm-08-10

In the world of competitive gaming, there can be a huge difference between the haves and the have-nots. There have only been three teams that have won North American LCS championships: Team SoloMid, Counter Logic Gaming, and Cloud9. Unsurprisingly, those teams are three of the four biggest favorites to win the Summer Split this year. Six of the nine previous finals have had Cloud9 square off against TSM, with Cloud9 winning the first two finals and TSM winning the last four, including the two most recent NA titles. TSM is looking to become the first team in North American history to three-peat.

The Dominance of TSM

Despite both teams finishing 14-4, TSM finished top of the table in the regular season by virtue of having a better record in individual games than Immortals. TSM has won five matches in a row heading into the playoffs and are looking like the team to beat.

Mid-laner Bjergsen has been the main reason for TSM’s success this split. He was the best player of the NA Summer Split by a wide margin. He was named MVP four more times than any other player in the region this split and dominated on three different champions. His play on Syndra, Taliyah, and Cassiopeia has been fantastic and the team is 21-3 when he is on one of those three champions. Bjergsen had the second-highest KDA of any player in North America for a reason.

The wildcard on the team is Svenskeren. Svenskeren can totally take over a game, but can put TSM in a hole too. His inability to master one of the best jungle champions in the current meta, Elise, is very concerning. He has been great on Lee Sin and Gragas, but that could come back to bite TSM against a team with a great jungler like Envy.

Can Immortals Finally Win a Title?

The emergence of Pobelter as a solid mid-laner has helped fuel Immortals’ reemergence this split. At the start of the season top-laner Flame was getting all of the attention after some fantastic performances, but Pobelter was this team’s rock.

Pobelter isn’t the mid-lane assassin that Jensen or Huhi are. Instead, he mainly picks team-fight champions and constantly supports his other lanes. He has been the best on Taliyah and Corki this season.

The other surprise for Immortals has been the play of Cody Sun. He has been one of the top AD Carries in North America this split and can deal damage with the best of them. He reigns supreme on assassins like Jhin, Tristana, and Twitch, but has struggled with others.

Will one of the longshot teams claim the crown?

Cloud9 and CLG are seen as having the best chance to knock off TSM and Immortals. C9 and CLG both finished the regular season at 12-6 and have more talented rosters.

For C9, it’s all about Jensen. He racked up 47 more kills than anyone else in North America this split and is aggressive to a fault at times. It works out more often than not, but the better teams in the world know they can bait Jensen into chasing a kill. C9 has won six straight matches and beat Dignitas 2-1 just three weeks ago.

CLG has a major weakness heading into the postseason. The team has had three different junglers this season and just switched from Dardoch to rookie OmarGod. He has had some ups and downs since being thrust into the starting line-up and that will keep CLG from winning it all.

Envy has a superstar jungler and that’s it. Lira has been fantastic, but the rest of the team is weak and there is no way they can run the table and win it all with the talent gap evident at the other positions.

However, Dignitas is a longshot that can pay off at 12-1. They were the only team to beat TSM in both of their series in Summer and have been much better since Altec became the starting AD Carry. Unfortunately, they have to face Cloud9 in the Quarterfinals, but if they can get past C9 they have a great chance to beat TSM.
