LCS North America Summer Split Championship Betting Preview

Team SoloMid is looking to make history. No team has won three straight North American championships since the creation of the LCS format and they are vying to be the first. They have been unequivocally the best team in North America since Summer 2016 and dominated at Rift Rivals against their European competition too. Standing in their way are Immortals, a team that went just 8-10 in spring, but turned it on in the summer and finished just behind TSM with a 14-4 record. Both of these sides have already punched their ticket to the World Championship in China. There, TSM will be looking to get out of the Group Stage for the first time since 2014, while Immortals will be making their first trip to Worlds after crashing out in Qualifiers against Cloud9 last year.

Whereas most top-lane matchups are more or less stalemates, the laning phase between TSM’s Hauntzer and Immortals’ Flame promises to bring some action. The Flame Horizon days where Flame would get a 100 cs lead on his opponent are gone, but that doesn’t mean he is content to play a breakeven game up top. Even on tank champions, he still finds a way to get kills and be right in the thick of things. He picked up 12 kills on his way to a 7.3 KDA in Immortals’ sweep of Counter Logic Gaming in the semifinals and is ready to square off against Hauntzer.

Hauntzer has had some ups and downs this year. There have been times where he has pushed himself too far into lane and got himself into trouble for it. Some of that is probably due to his past as a mid-laner, but he can try to be a playmaker too often when his role is just to be a steady tank.

These two will test each other. Both did their best work on Jarvan IV and Shen in the semifinals, so it will be interesting to see how the draft plays out. If one gets banned away, the other will be either banned away or prioritized and that can set up an interesting matchup.

The bottom lane battle between these two teams should be fun to watch too. For all of his grandstanding, Doublelift has only been a slight improvement over WildTurtle this split and played poorly the last time these two sides squared off. Doublelift had just six kills total in those two games as he and Biofrost were outplayed by Immortals’ duo of Cody Sun and Olleh.

Olieh has been the best playmaking support this split and was one of the keys to Immortals’ sweep of CLG. Although his KDA didn’t necessarily highlight his impact, there is no doubt that his decision to pull the trigger on certain teamfights was clutch. His attacking style is in contrast to Biofrost, who is better at saving his teammates.

For Immortals to pull off the upset, they need to contain Bjergsen. Bjergen was robbed of All-Pro status this split as his 12 MVP awards were four more than the next closest player. He obliterated Pobelter in their last meeting and had 11 kills on Syndra in Game 1 of that series.

In the end, TSM is going to be just too much for Immortals. Immortals does have a lot of talent, but Bjergsen will lead TSM to its third straight title and NA LCS history.
