EU LCS League of Legends Regionals Betting Preview

With their dominating run through the Summer Split Playoffs, Misfits are joining G2 at the League of Legends World Championships in China later this month. That leaves just one more spot for a European team available. Four teams will battle it out in a gauntlet style format to determine who will join their comrades in China and who will be left at home trying to figure out what went wrong. Fnatic are the big favorites on the strength of their recent play and because they are the last team up in the gauntlet, but can someone else beat them out for the last spot instead?

Fnatic -225 Unicorns of Love +400

H2K +650 Splyce +1200

In this playoff format, H2K and Splyce will play in the first round on Friday. After that, the winner will take on Unicorns of Love in the second round on Saturday. Then, the winner of that matchup will face Fnatic on Friday with the final European spot on the line.

H2K and Splyce have at least a puncher’s chance of getting through. Whereas there is usually one team that is considered an also-ran in the first round of the gauntlet, like FlyQuest in North America, both of these teams have looked good in the recent past.

H2K may have been dismantled by G2 in the Summer Split semifinals, but they finished atop a group that included both Unicorns of Love and Splyce in the regular season. Febiven was named the best mid-laner in Europe this split and the team will play through him. He didn’t have a good outing against Perkz the last time we saw him, but did outperform Sencux by a wide margin in H2K’s two sweeps of Splyce in the regular season.

If Splyce have any chance of knocking off H2K, the bottom lane must carry the day. Odoamne was far better than Wunder the last time these two teams played and will again give H2K the advantage in the top lane. However, H2K’s Nuclear and Chei have been susceptible to early pressure. That’s what Splyce’s bottom lane duo of Kobbe and Mikyx need to exploit, with some help coming from Trashy in the jungle.

Unicorns of Love are the second-favorite, but might be an underdog to H2K if they meet on Saturday. They have had a real awful time in the current meta and were eviscerated by Misfits in the Quarterfinals of the playoffs.

Exileh is the weakest mid-laner on a good team in Europe. He is constantly losing his lane and getting bullied by better players and won’t fare well against Febiven without some help. PowerOfEvil dominated him in the Quarterfinals and exposed the flaws in his game. It’s unlikely he will be back with the team after this season, but until then he is the starter in the mid-lane.

For UoL to get past H2K, Xerxe will need to rekindle what we saw from him in the Spring Split. Then, his creative jungling constantly kept teams on the back foot and made mid-laners weary of committing too heavily.

It’s somewhat surprising that Fnatic is in this spot and didn’t receive an automatic berth, but their failure against Misfits put them here. This was the best team in Europe during the regular season with stars at every position.

Rekkles is the best AD Carry in Europe, just ask him. The King of the KDA has looked fantastic this split and has helped propel Fnatic this year. He doesn’t always play well with the rest of his team, but is extremely talented and he and Jesiz will pick apart every other bottom lane of this bunch.

It’s hard to imagine a scenario where Fnatic doesn’t qualify. They are significantly better than the other three teams and will only have to play one series in order to make it to China. Lay the chalk and bet on them to get it done.
