eSports Odds - The wave of the future

eSports-Update-ODDS

The cream of the crop is starting to rise in League of Legends Korea. Three teams are tied at the top of the table at 9-3 and the next closest team sits at 7-5. With only the top five teams making the playoffs that means that there are likely only two spots left up for grabs at this point. Who will be able to make the playoffs and get a nice cash prize as well as critical Circuit Points?

KT Rolster -270

Jin Air Green Wings +210

KT Rolster is reeling. They have lost three straight and have simply been unable to beat the best teams in Korea. They lost both series to SK Telecom T1 and ROX Tigers and as a result are two games back of the top teams. The good news for KT Rolster is that it doesn’t have many difficult matches yet. Aside from the match against Samsung Galaxy remaining, every team left on its schedule holds a worse record. Fourth seems like the worst case scenario for this team at this point provided it can get a win over Jin Air.

It’s do or die time for Jin Air. Jin Air sits in seventh place at 5-7 and desperately needs a win here to possibly land a spot in the Summer Playoffs. The Green Wings looked solid early on in the regular season, but then teams learned how to counter their patient style of play and they haven’t been able to bounce back. Jin Air has lost six straight after defeating SKT in Week 4 and has already lost to KT Rolster this season.

MVP -115

Afreeca Freecs -115

This could end up being the most important match-up of the week by the end of the season. MVP and AF sit in fifth and sixth place with AF just a half game back of MVP. MVP fell to Afreeca Freecs just two weeks ago, but has looked solid since, taking care of bottom feeders CJ Entus and Longzhu Gaming. The team also competed well with SKT 1, although it ended up losing 2-0, but will face an uphill battle if it falls to AF. MVP doesn’t have many cupcakes left on the schedule and wins over middle-of-the-road competitors are vital.

Afreeca Freecs continues to be one of the most mind-boggling teams in Korea. In the last month, AF knocked off SKT, KT Rolster, and MVP, but lost to ESC Ever last week when a win would have put them in sole possession of fifth place. As long as Mickey is the team’s mid-laner this team can compete with anyone in Korea, but other players need to match his level of play.

ROX Tigers -200

Samsung Galaxy +160

One of the three teams currently tied for first won’t be after ROX and Samsung square off. Samsung is still seen in a different light as ROX and SKT, but has consistently beaten all the lower level teams it was supposed to beat. Crown has been phenomenal in the mid-lane this year, and might be the second best mid-laner in the world behind Faker. Samsung topped ROX in the first match of the season for both sides and will look to prove that that wasn’t a fluke.

ROX has been coming on strong in recent week. ROX dispatched of KT Rolster on Wednesday in order to put itself in a third place tie and would be considered the best team in Korea by many if not for SKT. Unlike many other teams in Korea with weak starters, every player on the ROX roster is considered one of the elites at their position.
