League of Legends is the most popular eSport in the world and the top league is Champions Korea or LCK. This league has produced the eventual world champion in each of the last three years and the Korean teams are miles ahead of their European and American counterparts. The Korean league is a third of the way through Summer Split play and the action is heating up as SK Telecom 1 is looking to continue its dominance over the rest of the league. Let’s look ahead to some of the matches this week.

SK Telecom T1 -950

Jin Air Green Wings +550

After struggling during the first part of the Spring Split, SK Telecom T1 showed why it is the best team in the world in the playoffs. SK Telecom T1 finished in third place so it had to best three separate teams to win the title in the ladder style playoffs. The team responded like a champion does and only dropped two games en route to another title. SK Telecom T1 has been on a tear over the last year, not only winning the Spring Playoffs, but winning this year’s Mid-Season Invitational and last season’s World Championship as well.

The team is led by Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, who has already been dubbed the greatest LoL player ever. He was the star of the team that won the last two world championships and this year’s Mid-Season Invitational and his play in the mid-lane is spectacular. He is only 20 years old and continues to shine and as long as he is on SK Telecom T1, it will be one of the best teams in the world.

Jin Air was one of the better teams in the league last season and is off to a hot start this season. The Green Wings are 4-1 through five matches with the one loss being a respectable one to Samsung Galaxy. This team relies on patience and grinding to overwhelm its opponent in the end and that usually works pretty well. Jin Air will have a very tough task ahead of it though as SK Telecom T1 is extremely difficult to beat when everyone is locked in.

ROX Tigers -750

Longzhu Gaming +450

ROX Tigers has been the second best team in the world over the last year, but hasn’t been able to break through because of the dominance of SK Telecom T1. ROX finished runners-up to SK Telecom T1 in both this season’s Spring Playoffs and last year’s World Championship. The team has played well to start the season with its only two losses being to Samsung Galaxy and, you guessed it, SK Telecom T1. Against most people’s expectations this team has gelled together quickly over the last year and is a threat to win any tournament it enters.

Longzhu Gaming changed up most of its roster following a disappointing 8-10 record during the Spring Split and spent the first few weeks of the season learning to play together. The change may finally start to be paying dividends after its win over previously undefeated Samsung Galaxy last night. We’ll see if that win over Samsung was a fluke or not based on how Longzhu plays against ROX, but the price on them is tempting here.

KT Rolster -560

ESC Ever +360

KT Rolster was seen as a dark horse contender to win the Summer Split, but hasn’t been able to break through against Rox or SK Telecom T1. As long as the meta stays on top lane players, it will be one of the better teams in the league. Ssumday is one of the best top lane players in the world and has carried his team to wins over the past year with his dominant play. The rest of the team is inconsistent, but as long as Ssumday holds up his end of the bargain it will carry the day against all but the best teams in LCK.
