Byun -250

Dark +200

The enigmatic Byun is riding as high as he ever has heading into this series having just clinched a coveted spot at BlizzCon a month and a half from now. In doing so, not only did Byun win his first major title, but he also defeated one of the best players in the world in sOs.

It was amazing to watch Byun rally the way he did and that’s one of the reasons he is a moderate favorite here. In that tournament, he was almost eliminated in the Round of 32 and needed the full five games to reach the semi-finals, but then dominated both the semi-finals and the grand finals. He left no doubt that his re-emergence was no fluke with 4-1 victories over Dear and sOs to win the $33,840 given to the champion.

His victory was all the more impressive as he was the first elite-level player ever to switch races in the game, making the jump from Protoss to Terran. That meant learning how to play the game a completely different way, but obviously it worked out for him.

Not only that, but Byun was able to win the title despite not being affiliated with a team. In the rigid Korean eSports community, that has the potential to send shockwaves through the system as a team was thought to be integral to actually achieving success. If he can continue to succeed at this tournament, it may lead more players to go completely solo.

As for Dark, he is quietly lurking here despite winning StarLeague Season 1 earlier this year. He was bounced in the Round of 16 of GSL Code S, having been placed in the same group as sOs and Byun, but still managed to take a game from Byun in the process.

Dark hasn’t been at his best this season but is still one of the top players in the world and his choice of Zerg matches up well against Terran players. Also, Dark leads all Korean players in points this season, meaning that he has had the best cumulative season of any player in the country. At these odds, he is definitely worth a play.

sOs -155

Solar +125

sOs is one of the more decorated players in Starcraft II history having one two WCS Global Finals and numerous other major tournaments. Even though he is 13th in points this season, he is unequivocally one of the best players in the world and has made a habit of beating Zerg players like Solar while using Protoss.

Solar is second in points this season, but his status as an underdog should come as no surprise. He has struggled to beat sOs in competitive play in his career and although he emerged victorious over sOs at last year’s DreamHack Open he is still behind overall. He should probably be a bigger underdog than what he is and that makes sOs worth a play.
