eSports-Update-bm-ar-2016

The Worlds are off to a smashing start. International qualifier INTZ pulled off the biggest upset in the history of the tournament by knocking off Edward Gaming in the first day of action. That was the highlight of an action-packed opening day and the question now is what will we get as an encore in the second day.

SK Telecom T1 -520
Cloud9 +320

The champs are ready to defend their crown. SKT faces a somewhat difficult challenge in its first match of the tournament. Cloud9 is a team that has really come together as of late and are a sneaky pick to make it to the knockout stages after a dominant performance in the North American Qualifiers for Worlds.

At the end of the day though, it’s very hard to go against SKT. Although the defending champions have been a bit shaky as of late, this team has always come together when it matters the most. The main weakness on this team is its play from the jungle position and as long as it gets mediocre play there, it should have no problem winning here.

I May +165
Flash Wolves -265

There might not be a bigger enigma in the world than Flash Wolves. They have been dubbed the ‘Korean Killers’ for their ability to knock off the best teams from South Korea, but have yet to make it to the finals of any major tournament. Flash Wolves have a dynamic mid-laner in Maple who can create mismatches thanks to his play and he is who they will rely on here.

The Wolves will face a stiff challenge from I May. I May has a fantastic top-laner in AmazingJ and the team’s chances revolve around him getting the better hand of his counterpart in the top lane. He is great with Ekko and Poppy and that will make it hard for the Wolves to block him.

Edward Gaming -860
AHQ E-Sports Club +433

The dynamic of this match has completely changed after the first match for each side. Edward was expecting to walk over INTZ, but after being upset desperately needs a win here to avoid the possibility of crashing out of Worlds. This is still one of the best teams in the world though and now can’t afford to overlook anyone else.

Meanwhile, this is a game that AHQ can afford to lose after knocking off H2K earlier on Thursday. AHQ’s style of play doesn’t match up well against the slow meticulous grinding of Edward Gaming and that will lead to a big win for Edward Gaming here.

TSM -128
Samsung -102

TSM was obliterated by Royal Never Give Up in its first match, losing team fight after team fight to a Royal side that showed uncharacteristic discipline throughout the game. Although Svenskeren played well early on and picked off a few of the enemy fighters in one-on-one’s, rookie Biofrost got destroyed and Doublelift had an uncharacteristically bad game.

Now the home-town favorites have to face a Korean juggernaut in Samsung and will be in dire straits if they fall. TSM was unlucky to get drawn into the Group of Death and a loss here will put them in a hole that will be tough to climb out of if Royal continues playing like this.
