eSports Odds - League of Legends Champions Korea Preview

eSports-Update-bm

Across the globe, League of Legends continental seasons are nearing their end. Korea is down to three teams in its quirky ladder-style playoff system, while North America and Europe are in the quarterfinals of their playoffs. There is a lot of playoff action this week and numerous teams vying to win their playoffs and get an invitation to go to the World Championship.

H2K -123
Fnatic +102

This line is a reflection of these two teams’ match-up in the last week of the regular season. Prior to that, Fnatic was seen as the better team, but were in free-fall mode during that week. Fnatic tied lowly Team ROCCAT at the start of the week and then lost to G2 and H2K to fall from the third-place team heading into the tournament to the fifth-place team. This team is in disarray as its coach Luis Sevilla, Deilor, stepped down just last week and has cited major chemistry problems on a team that lost a lot of its talent from last season.

Like Fnatic, H2K has traditionally been one of the top League of Legends teams in Europe, but has limped along this season. The team has been racked with chemistry issues as well as FORG1VEN left the team before the start of the Summer Split, only to return after clashing with his new team. He recently returned to the starting lineup after teammate Freeze developed a major wrist injury and although there is animosity between he and his teammates they have played well together to this point.

Giants -169
Unicorns of Love +138

Giants faced two of the worst teams in Europe’s top league the last week of the season and got a win and a draw heading into the playoffs. The team has looked pretty good in the Summer Split and has one of the best support players on the continent in Hustlin. Hustlin was tops in the league at kill participation in the regular season and his 327 assists were third best in Europe.

Unicorns of Love proved that it can beat any team in Europe with a win over Splyce in the last week of the regular season. UoL also defeated Giants the last time these teams met last month and has shown a knack for thinking outside the box that makes them a dangerous foe against anyone. The play of mid laner Exileh will be important here. His KDA is pretty bad for a playoff team, but he has the capability to outduel his opponent in the middle and give his team an advantage. If he can do this, UoL can knock off Giants here.

SK Telecom T1 -220
KT Rolster +178

This has been the first of two match-ups that everyone has been waiting for. KT, SKT, and ROX have been the three best teams in Korea all season long and for the first time in two years, SKT is showing signs of vulnerability. SKT lost five games in the Summer Split and there have been some worrisome issues with the team’s strategy. SKT still has the most talented roster in the world, but KT can pull off an upset here.

KT was swept 3-0 by SKT in the Spring but after the initial shock, this team has re-doubled its efforts in order to finally knock off the three-time champs. KT is led by Ssumday who proved to be one of the best top laners in the world this year, but it was Arrow who dominated Samsung in the previous round. Arrow notched 21 kills and 31 assists without dying a single time and while he won’t be able to do that against SKT, he can still be dominant.
