Evil Geniuses were the first and only North American team to win The International. They opened up as the favorite, but the odds on them to win it all have risen and they are now the second favorite per the oddsmakers.
Many analysts still consider this team the favorite. Evil Geniuses boast two of the best players in the world in SumaiL and UNiVeRsE and have won three of the last seven major tournaments they have entered. They have not had the complete collapses that other contenders have had this season, but have had trouble beating Chinese giants OG. Dating back to November 2016, OG has knocked Evil Geniuses out of five tournaments.
The odds on Virtus haven’t changed at all over this last week. Virtus has one of the best support players in ‘Lil’ and his innovative playstyle as a support has helped spark this team over the past year. Just two months ago, they bested Team Secret, LGD Gaming, Digital Chaos, and Team Empire at The Summit 7. They should place well here, but aren’t a good bet to win it all at this price.
One of the teams to bet on at their current price is OG. Opinions are split on the Chinese giants after a shaky year has seen them relinquish their title as the best team in China. Although they lost the best player in the world when Miracle- left to join Team Liquid, they still might have more individual talent than any team outside of Team Liquid.
Fly is the captain of the team and one of the best defensive minded players in the world. He routinely sees an opposing team’s strategy before it can be enacted and does the little things needed to quash the maneuver. JerAx is his support counterpart and is also considered one of the best in the game and n0tail is great too. OG will be out to prove that their shock exit from The International last season was just a fluke and not a sign that it can’t win on the biggest stage.
Rounding out the S-Tier of teams competing at The International is Team Liquid. Liquid spent a good amount of money in order to land Miracle- and built a worthy team around him. They have already won four tournaments this year, but their performance in Kiev three months ago was concerning. One person can’t single-handedly win a title in this sport so stay away from Liquid too.
