DOTA 2 Perfect World Masters Betting Preview

eSports-Coverage-11-17-bm

Although Perfect World Masters is defined as a Minor, a decent-sized prize pool and the chance to earn qualification points for The International has brought many of the top teams in DOTA 2 to this event. Although the Chinese sides are the overwhelming favorites in this tournament, there are some other squads like Team Secret and Mineski that can upset the apple cart and disappoint the Shanghai crowd. This tournament will be a week long and with a $300,000 prize pool, we are guaranteed to see some quality action.

GROUP A PREVIEW

This is the much easier of the two groups. Three of the four longshots are in this group and that means that it’s likely two of the four will make it out of the Group Stage and into the Quarterfinals.

Vici Gaming and LGD.Forever Young are the two overwhelming favorites in this group. LGD.FY is one of a handful of teams that did not switch up its roster after The International and that continuity will give them an advantage in early season tournaments.

Why would LGD.FY want to change anything up? They finished in third place at this year’s International and lost to the team that took down the whole tournament in Team Liquid. LGD.FY claimed first place in a tournament over Newbee last week and it was a little surprising to see Newbee listed as the favorite over this squad.

Vici Gaming is just starting to learn to play together as a team. Four members of last year’s squad left in early September and only Ori remains. Vici did knock off Newbee in a qualifier for a different event earlier this week, but lost to LGD and VGJ.Thunder in smaller events.

GROUP B PREVIEW

You have to feel bad for Kinguin. Kinguin got stuck in a very difficult group and now has to battle four teams that are clearly better than them. They are the favorite to be the odd team out and not make it out of the Group Stage, but Europeans will be rooting for the relatively new team.

Newbee and Team Secret are the two teams everyone seems to like in this group. Newbee finished in second place in The International, taking home almost $4 million as a result. However, the team has not had much success since that point. Newbee did win a DreamLeague Qualifier over LGD.FY two months after The International, but have since lost to Vici Gaming (twice), Team Secret, LGD.FY, and LGD in different tournaments.

Team Secret is integrating two new players into an international squad and may need some time to adapt, especially since Fata is switching roles. This will be their first time travelling outside of Europe since The International, so that may be an issue too.

PREDICTION

I don’t understand why Newbee is the favorite in this one. While they deserve to be one of the contenders, listing them as the favorite is a little puzzling to me. I think LGD.FY is a much more deserving favorite and is worthy of a bet to win it all instead. They will be playing in an easier group and don’t have to worry about chemistry issues that other newer teams will have to.
