GROUP YELLOW PREVIEW

The tournament is split into two groups of six teams and looks to be split pretty evenly. Team Yellow looked like it would be a little harder a few weeks ago though.

FaZe Clan is probably the best team in CS:GO right now. Although they ended up losing to Ninjas in Pyjamas at IEM Oakland, the superteam’s results speak for themselves. Unlike other eSports where superteams tend not to work because of chemistry and team fighting issues, they work in CS:GO because there is a more individual aspect to CS:GO. There are no large teamfights since everything happens so quickly and it takes just one or two bullets to kill someone.

That’s why this team has been unstoppable since adding NiKo, GuardiaN, and olofmeister. All three players were the stars of their former teams and bringing them all aboard turned them into Golden State. FaZe has already surpassed $1 million in prize money this year by winning the latest ELEAGUE and ESL One: New York. They have finished in the top two in seven Premier tournaments this season.

Astralis is in this group too. Astralis was the best team in the world for the first few months of the season, but lost their aura of invincibility after Virtus Pro knocked them off. They did make it to the ELEAGUE Final where they lost to FaZe, but that was their first good performance at a premier event in four months.

Team Liquid might be a surprise team in this tournament. Their results have been decent recently and they might be close to a break through. They finally won a title by beating Misfits at a minor and now they are hoping to take another step up.

GROUP RED PREVIEW

SK Gaming is the other team that can compete with FaZe. SK has been the best team over the last year and a half and there is no denying their pedigree. They have five first-place finishes this season, a feat no other team has in major tournaments. Their feuds with FaZe have been epic.

North and Ninjas in Pyjamas are going to be the other teams that people will take to get out of Group Red. North has been solid all season, while NiP won the most recent major tournament.

NiP is a little bit of fool’s gold, they have not been great for most of the season, but put it all together last week. Buyer beware with this team.

PREDICTION

Go ahead and grab SK Gaming in this one. The Brazilians are going to be hungry after getting knocked out of last week’s tournament by NiP. There are no chemistry issues because of how long they have been playing together and will put everything together this time. I think they will knock off Astralis in the final as FaZe suffers a slight disappointment.
