CS:GO ESL One: New York 2017 Betting Preview

DreamHack Malmo was just two weeks ago, but we already have another major CS:GO tournament that’s about to kick off. ESL One: New York is one of the biggest tournaments in North America and there will be eight teams vying for a $250,000 prize pool. This isn’t a tournament with any scrubs as some of the best teams in the world will be competing and everyone has a shot to win. The crowd will be hungry for one of the two North American teams to win, but that will be difficult with all the elite European teams taking part.

Astralis +283
SK Gaming +303
FaZe Clan +456
Natus Vincere +569
Cloud9 +786
Virtus Pro +1336
EnVyUs +1336
Team Liquid +1761

Astralis is the favorite mainly because it is in an easier group than SK Gaming. Astralis will be paired with FaZe, Virtus Pro, and Team Liquid in Group B and they are heavy favorites to make it out of the group stage.

The Danes were one of the two or three best CS:GO teams in the world in the first half of the year, but have had some letdown performances recently. They were swept by Gambit in the quarterfinals at DreamHack Malmo and also lost to Gambit in Krakow a month before that. As long as Kjaerbye is on this team though, Astralis will be a favorite. He was the MVP of ELEAGUE earlier this year and is in the top echelon of professional players.

Virtus Pro is Astralis’ arch rival and it will be fantastic to see the two sides square off again. Virtus was one of the best teams in the world at the start of the year, but has really fallen off as the year has gone on. The Poles were terrible at Malmo and got routed at ESL One: Cologne two months ago. They did perform well in Krakow, but they have had some awful performances.

Still, I like Virtus to make it to the semifinals over FaZe. FaZe recently shook up its roster by adding GuardiaN and olofmeister from Natus Vincere and Fnatic. Both are solid additions, but teamwork and chemistry is a major part of CS:GO and it will take time for it to grow with this group.

In Group A, SK Gaming is the favorite, but has a much tougher run. SK has been arguably the best team in the world over the course of the year, but has run into some issues since an incredible nine tournament run where they finished second or better eight times.

SK was swept by Astralis in Krakow and didn’t make it out of the quarterfinal stage at Malmo. Those hiccups are more than likely temporary and I am expecting them to win this tournament or at least make the final.

Cloud9 is the North American team with the best hope of winning it all. They have had some decent results recently and came in second place to SK Gaming at ESL One: Cologne. The duo of Stewie2K and autimatic has been a great one as the two both have ratings of 1.11. They will lead Cloud9 to the second spot in Group A.

Consistency is key in this game and Natus Vincere is just too up and down. Na’Vi has a superstar in s1mple, but no one else can play at his level on this team. That will lead to them just missing out on the semifinals.
