Boxing betting online: Undefeated Gennady Golovkin, one of the best and busiest stars in boxing today, will return to the ring to defend his title less than three months after dismantling Martin Murray on February 21.
The heavy-handed “GGG” is set to face slick southpaw Willie Monroe Jr., who has only lost once as a professional. Monroe is currently ranked #3 WBA, #5 WBO and #9 WBC – Golovkin is the consensus #1 middleweight in the world.
Currently, Bookmaker’s Golovkin-Monroe boxing odds have Kazakh native Golovkin as a massive favorite, with a -2445 money line. Monroe’s money line is at +1274. This sounds about right, as nothing in Monroe’s past suggests he has what it takes to put the outcome of this match in doubt. The over/under has yet to be set, but I’d expect to be 10.5 rounds in this 12-rounder.
Monroe is riding a nine-fight winning streak since suffering an eight-round split decision loss to journeyman Darnell Boone in 2011. However, it’s his last four fights that have turned heads. Monroe charged his way to victory in the eight-man ESPN Boxcino middleweight tourney last year, pitching a near-shutout decision against Brandon Adams in the May final, then dominated fringe contender Bryan Vera earlier this January.
Golovkin is one of the most powerful punchers in the game today, and his destructive punches have finally started to earn him some name recognition in the states. In fact, you’d have to go all the way back to 2008 and to find the last fight that GGG went to a decision. Now training in Los Angeles, the 33-year old is poised to sit atop the middleweight division for the next few years as the list of credible challengers seems short.
If you bet on Golovkin vs. Monroe, bet the house on Golovkin taking this fight. It’s an expensive bet for sure, but this is a horrible matchup for Monroe. He’s a stick-and-move kind of guy, and we saw against Murray that Golovkin does have enough speed to chase and beat run-and-stall fighters like Monroe. It’s inevitable that Golovkin will stalk down the challenger and hurt him enough to easily win this fight.
