Danny O’Connor looks for revenge against Gabriel Bracero on October 10 NBC Sports Net card

The first time Danny O’Connor met Gabriel Bracero in 2011, he was a promising fighter with a 14-0 record. He left the ring with the first loss of his career - but now he can reap his vengeance.

The welterweights are scheduled to meet on October 10, more than four years later as the headliner of a nationally televised Premier Boxing Champions card on NBC Sports Net.

ON THE ROAD TO A TITLE SHOT

O’Connor will be looking for his fourth straight stoppage this year. Most recently, he took apart Chris Gilbert in a May contest where he scored five knockdowns en route to a fifth-round TKO. While beating Bracero would avenge his first career loss, it more importantly put him much closer to a title shot.

Bracero is coming off a unanimous decision loss to the undefeated Felix Diaz, a 2008 Olympic gold medalist. The fight wasn’t particularly close, as Diaz put Bracero on the mat in the eighth and ninth rounds to pull away and derail his five-fight winning streak. A second loss would be devastating for a fringe fighter.

“This is a huge fight for me and my career. I only have one thought in my mind, and that’s victory. Danny is a tough opponent and on a winning streak right now. I’m coming off a disappointing loss in my last fight, and not to make any excuses, but that just wasn’t me. That wasn’t the best ‘Tito’ Bracero. The best Tito Bracero will be there October 10. I beat Danny before and I plan to do so again, in his backyard, even more convincingly.

O’Connor is a native of Massachusetts and should be a big crowd favorite against Bracero, who was born in Brooklyn, New York.

“I’m excited to be fighting at a building with great boxing history such as the Lowell Memorial Auditorium,” said O’Connor. “I won the Golden Gloves there, and I can’t wait to fight there again. I’m also excited to avenge my first loss against Gabriel Bracero. I’m so ready for this!”

In the co-feature, exciting junior lightweight Jonathan Guzman - 19-0, 19 KOs - will square off against Danny Aquino - 17-2, 10 KOs. Also on the card is a featherweight tilt between Ryan Kielczweski - 23-1, 7 KOs - and Rafael Vazquez - 16-1, 13 KOs.
