Boxing betting online: Another day, another safe bout for Daniel Jacobs - 29-1, 26 KOs -. The WBA middleweight champ will put his belt on the line against a fringe contender in Sergio Mora (28-3-2, 9 KOs), who clocks in at No. 11 in the WBA rankings.

The two will meet on the undercard of an ESPN Premier Boxing Champions card headlined by Danny Garcia and Paulie Malignaggi.

CURRENT ODDS

Check our online Jacobs-Mora odds and expect Jacobs to be a massive favorite – I’m thinking at least minus-800. This is an undeniably safe fight for the champion, who seems to have elected an opponent that will make him look good on ESPN. The over/under in this 12-round bout will likely be set at 10.5 rounds, and it’s probable that the under wades into minus territory.

WELL, AT LEAST THE FIGHT IS FREE

Sergio Mora is best known for winning the first season of NBC’s The Contender reality series a decade ago. And that’s about it. He hasn’t really done anything of note since then, besides losing to Shane Mosley a few years ago in a dismal fight. On top of that, he’s not a fun fighter to watch, with low output and almost zero power. Still, I guess a five-fight winning streak over nobodies is enough to net you a WBA title shot these days.

On the other hand, Jacobs is a pretty decent fighter, so it’s disappointing to see him in another squash match. One could argue that the champ hasn’t faced a real opponent since 2010, when Dmitry Pirog demolished him in six rounds. It’s understandable to take a few easy fights to rebuild your confidence, but at some point it’ll look like Jacobs is afraid of the top guys.

In a perfect world, Jacobs would be fighting guys like Gennady Golovkin, Tureano Johnson, Chris Eubanks, Martin Murray, Willie Monroe Jr. or Dmitry Chudinov. I can think of at least five more guys that would be more appealing than Mora. Perhaps he’ll use this opportunity on ESPN to put him in a meaningful fight. At some point, he’s got to justify the strap around his waist.

FIGHT ANALYSIS AND PICK

Mora fights older than his 34 years, and his lack of punching power is a death sentence against Jacobs. The champ is a near lock to win this fight, although it’ll cost you a ton to make a little. In a mismatch like this, you’ll want to look at the over/under, which will net you a better payout. There’s a great chance that Jacobs ends this fight within six rounds, making the under a great play. If you’re feeling lucky, parlay Jacobs with the under and come out even prettier.
