NBA Sunday, March 31, 2024 Parlay Picks

Well, the sportsbook giveth and the sportsbook taketh away. After hitting a three-team NBA parlay last Friday I was handed a big ohfer on Sunday. All I can do is regroup and go looking for winners like it’s an Easter egg hunt, which it sort of is since the last day in March is the most important Christian holiday. The NBA schedule for Sunday, March 31 is littered with 10 games and intriguing matchups to build a NBA parlay. NBA TV airs a doubleheader starting with the defending champion Nuggets hosting Cleveland at 3:30 p.m. ET followed by the Warriors at Spurs matchup at 7 p.m. ET.

With the close of the last full month of regular season games we have plenty of playoff and play-in questions still lingering. Not so much which teams will be playing once the regular season ends rather where and who they’ll be playing. Realistically the Houston Rockets are the only team with a shot at cracking the top 10. On the strength of a nine-game winning streak the Rockets are clawing at the heels of Golden State for the 10th seed. Houston entertains Luka Doncic and the Mavericks. The three teams jostling for first place in the West are all playing with the Denver-Cleveland contest getting the day started. At 7 p.m. ET the Thunder takes on New York and the Timberwolves host Chicago.

Sportsbooks aren’t in business to give away money so days like last Sunday are expected. After all they call it gambling not winning. Two of my losses were against the spread backing New Orleans and the Clippers. The Pels won but failed to cover against Detroit while the Clips lost to Philly as a 9-point favorite. The OKC-Milwaukee matchup came up well short of the total and of course I backed the over. Take the loss and move on is the only strategy.

The Nuggets have been on a massive heater since the All-Star break winning 15 of the first 17 games with payouts in 11 of those. They also took over first place in the West, which is helpful for them having such a distinct homecourt edge. They used it last postseason losing just once on their way to the NBA title. Meanwhile the Cavs have struggled with Donovan Mitchell on the shelf. They had lost six of eight before ending the slide with a win over Charlotte on Monday. They aren’t facing the Hornets making it difficult for the Cavs to cover the spread.

I’m also backing Golden State as a spread pick in their game with the Spurs. The only bright spot in San Antonio is Victor Wembanyama and with him hampered by an ankle injury the Dubs have a serious edge. Besides, Golden State has been money on the road with the best cover rate in the league at 67.7 percent. Steph Curry and Klay Thompson can still light it up and the Warriors need wins to stay in a play-in spot.

Holding an opponent to fewer than 80 points in a game is quite an accomplishment in today’s NBA. Doing it three games in a row is mind-blowing. The Knicks are one of the few teams that still plays defense holding seven of their last nine opponents to fewer than 100 points after beating Detroit 124-99 on Monday. OKC is another team that clamps down on that end of the floor ranking among the top 5 in efficiency. With Julius Randle still on the shelf and OG Anunoby bothered by an elbow problem, the Knicks have to rely on their defense putting this game in the UNDER category.

The four-team parlay cashes when the Kings and Jazz tickle the twine a bunch of times to exceed the point total. That’s something they’ve done six times with a push in the last nine games. Utah concedes a lot of points and they should be competent on offense with leading scorers Lauri Markkanen and Jordan Clarkson back after missing several outings.
